The Todd Group formerly the Baldock Institute was established in 1927 by the late Harry Baldock and has been European military close combat and military self-defence specialists for longer than any other private specialist training provider in our European military CQC/MSD trade-craft.
The trade-craft includes wide ranging military armed and unarmed combat as well as military self-defence , defensive tactics and close protection schools of instruction.
We have been Army CQC/MSD instructors since WW11 to regular and elite forces.

These experts in the close protection field were responsible for high level high risk war time close protection roles including the protection of leaders of countries government officials and high ranking military officers.
In my early days I was involved as a minder looking after clients that were not well known but were under threat of assault were victims of domestic violence and the like.
I was also actively involved in entertainment industry security and the safety and protection of entertainers.
These less specialist protection roles involved limited planning usually unknown specific threats and a need for real time assessments and decision making to prevent threats and reduce risk to as lower level as possible.
The duties were very much low tech hands on and required good preventative tactics and effective counter actions that could stop aggressors in an instant.
I trained crowd controller teams and we worked in venue security roles including making sure entertainers were kept safe for over 20 years and in that time we never failed to achieve our objectives by means of deliberate actions of prevention or intervention.
Our military self-protection and combative skills included protective tactics and skills to keep others under our protection safe and secure and we were in high demand back in the early days as we were known for such expertise at a time when there simply were not others in our location that were specialists in such field of expertise.
I developed a complete close personal protection CQC/MSD package that included defensive tactics for detainee control and handovers to the authorities if need be.
This package is a living package and has been kept current over the decades to ensure it is made up of the most current primary tactics and skills.
In the early days body guards and low level close protection people were looking at martial arts and fighting arts techniques that were not developed for close protection and were not the best tactically correct means of threat prevention or actions on intervention.
Many had no idea of how to be discreet and thought close protection was about intimidation or fighting.

Today specialist close personal protection training is more important than ever in the corporate, entertainment and many other facets of everyday life where travel and exposure to potential risk needs to be eliminated or if that is not possible must be minimised to the lowest possible level.
Close personal protection requires highly trained specialist CPOs (close protection officers) that have had the most specialist and diverse training.
While many military CPO courses can be of 2 or more months duration this is not possible in the civilian sector as it would price courses off the market and would not be viable for individuals to be on course and out of employment for several months.
Being knowledgeable in one or a few aspects of close personal protection is of little use in such an expansive and diverse roles and duties field as close personal protection so it is important that CPO training providers have knowledge capabilities and experience in all close protection trade-craft tactics and skills sets required to train close protection specialists.
The Todd Group have continued to maintain a high level specialist close protection school providing exponents with our most current primary practices training in all CPO trade-craft requirements.
The courses include training and training exercises in both New Zealand and Thailand our international hub country for training provision.
This enables attendees to undergo training exercises in both an English speaking country and a country where English is not the first language.
Getting training exercises experience in a foreign environment as part of the CPO course is a most beneficial experience for exponents on course for their future overseas contracts.
The exponents stay at Camp Todd in New Zealand and have all the benefits of our specialist training facilities and equipment then have a long haul flight experience to Thailand where they meet up with our in country staff and continue with training and training exercises that include a maritime and rail exercise as well as the longest day road travel exercise.
They go out and undertake threat assessments and security surveys and then compile their operation orders for upcoming training exercises as well as updating previous details operation orders and using them for training exercises.

We wrote the CPP course that was instructed under the NZQA framework previously at a security college but today only provide CPO training as a private specialist training organisation.
